No, No Magic jack is started playing games , if you have long distance calling with other than magic jack ( Ynex ) Magic Jack will block all those companies , as in my case I have account with Com wave ( long distance call provider) when I call com wave number it is redirected to ynex, so I believe in coming days Magic jack will interfere in your private matters , I complained so many times but they did not solve the problem , there simple answer is " engineers are working on it" O my God. before you go to buy Magic jack please call them and monitor the conversation so you wont have any problem latterly.

I have been using Magic Jack for a couple of years. I would say the call quality is usually ok to poor. Not as good as Skype and nowhere near as good as Vonage, which I have also used with my current ISP and home routher. A lot of the Magic Jack calls get dropped and sometimes it won't even call out. I use Magic Jack to keep from running over on my cell phone minutes and otherwise it is not plugged in. The reasons I don't like to keep it plugged in are that it monopolizes the screen for a long time during startup, I find the utility very annoying and the utility prevents the computer from going into standby. I wish the utility had an option to keep it minimized on startup and when making calls. I don't encourage people to call me on the Magic Jack number as it is usually unplugged but I have been happy with the voice mail system when they do. In short it's ok for occasional use on non critical calls.

Thank you for the reviews and information! I am tired of paying a phone bill to big firm (Rogers) and was really looking forward to trying this. Aside from security issues which I feel I could live with, the quality of the calls and tech support issues have dissuaded me.

I'm stuck paying my monthly phone bill but at least I didn't wast money:-)

Magic Jack is worth a lot more than $1.50 per month. I have had it for 2 years and it has cost me about$60.00 with no usage limitations. An unbelievable invention.
Try it with Google Voice (free), unreal.
Magic Jack is so cheap that people are afraid to buy it !
It is no good for faxs.

I have Ooma for two years. It may have cost more for the hardward (then for a MagicJack) $179 with shipping from costco (which has a great return policy, if I didn't like the product or it didn't work I could just return it to my local Costco) Have not had to pay a dime for Phone calls in the USA. if I want to call other countries cost very little can take the unit with me anywhere I travel. I Have a local phone number. get call ID, voice mail, call waiting FREE. can upgrade to and get two lines and a whole lot of other features (but I don't need them) And the biggest plus....you don't have to leave you computer on all the time. it plugs into you modem or router, looks like an answering machine and works like one. Why would anyone choose MJ over OOMA. all you need is a high speed connection, not even need a computer so if you computer crashes you still have phone. Also NEW has an app for the iphone. you can make ooma calls from your iphone for very little charge (I don't know it it works with other cell phone really didn't look into this because don't need this option). If I was looking for a new free phone service I would check out ooma.com. (no I do not work for ooma, I'm just a very happy costomer)

Paying Magikjack $40,00 is the same as throwing the money in the thash can. Poor quality calls, absolutely not reliable and when you need costumer service: GOOD LUCK!
I called the number (281) 404 1551. They make you wait for several minutes and then you get disconected, before you can talk to anyone. Complete lack of respect for the consumer.
