Adult Diaper Power
In Japan, used adult diapers are being used in biomass boilers. Incontinence, not usually a topic we discuss on the coffee desk but we found this intriguing and decided he had to share it. The Japanese company behind this recycling machine is Super Faiths. The company sees a great opportunity here with the aging population growing quickly. The numbers don’t lie. 5 billion adult diapers were sold in Japan in the last year with sales expected to increase in the next year. It’s obvious that disposable diaper use has has been on the rise and will only continue to add to our growing garbage storage problem.
The adult diaper recycling machines are referred to as SFD and can handle 700 pounds of soiled diapers each and every day. The company has produced machines that handle different amounts of adult diapers which top out at 1100 pounds per day. The SFD’s automate the process of making the adult diapers sterile. They then dry the diaper out so that it can be shredded. This material is then made into fuel pellets.
